PLA: Sustainable Bioplastic for Cold Applications
Many of our products are made from an innovative bioplastic called PLA (Poly Lactic Acid). This material is produced from renewable resources such as corn and beets. By extracting lactic acid from these crops and converting it into granules, a versatile material is created, from which products like PLA cups and deli containers are made. PLA products are known for their strength, transparency, and 100% compostability, making them ideal for food-related applications.
The main feature of PLA is its compostability according to the EN-13432 standard, meaning it fully decomposes within 90 days in an industrial composting facility. Additionally, PLA is food-safe and has a much lower environmental impact than conventional plastics, with a carbon footprint that is up to 75% lower than that of oil-based plastics.
One consideration with PLA is that it is not heat-resistant. At temperatures above 45°C, it can deform, making it best suited for cold drinks and dishes. Therefore, it is also important to store PLA products in a cool place.
Why Choose PLA?
- Sustainability: PLA is made from renewable resources like corn and beets, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
